Spread your
Artistic Wings with me.

Hello and welcome to my online journal! I created this blog to overcome my fears and document my creative development. I am a perfectionist, but my works are nowhere near perfect.

By documenting all my work; from doodles and sketches to work I consider “finished”, I wish to share my development as an artist in a realistic and honest way.

The title of this website refers to spreading one’s artistic wings and taking a dive into a vast world of materials, ideas, and inspiration. I hope this blog will inspire visitors to keep practising and learning without fear.

Starting my own website

Goals 01 and 02

As you can tell, I crossed “making my own website” off my goal list. In fact, this website is not my first. Building my own websites and designing layouts was my self-taught hobby for a long time when I was an angsty teenager. Back then, I could spend days perfecting my layouts in photoshop, ms paint, and notepad. I remember relying heavily on tutorials on websites such as Webbie and learning by going through source codes of websites that I liked. I can still vividly recall all the beautiful hobby designer’s websites. Smartphones and tablets were not a thing back then, so designers were free to do what they wanted as long as they had a website that worked on all popular desktop browsers.

I gradually lost interest in webdesign because I didn’t have a friend or mentor who could help me expand my horizon beyond the basics of html and CSS. The myriad of self learning resources available on the world wide web was overwhelming. I couldn’t find the wood for the trees and my understanding of English was not sufficient to understand tutorials about more complex programming languages.

So why start again now? I have a lot of freedom in my current job to start up new projects. However, I work in a sector where I need to keep costs down as much as possible. At first I thought this was very limiting: Ideas often get rejected because there is no budget available.

A few months ago, I came up with a plan to build a website for one of the projects. I had a very specific idea in my mind about the website’s looks and feel and what kind of pages and content it would have. I was excited to get started, but I soon realised that I couldn’t put my ideas into practise with the budget that was available (there was none).

But when I have an idea, I HAVE to make it reality. I can’t sit still or eat or sleep without doing so or at least trying! So, I decided to just do it myself. After all, I did it when I was 14, so why shouldn’t I be able to do it now? I started by building this website using only HTML and CSS with the help of a this wonderful instructor, Ava Naplocha. Much of the layout of this website is based on the project of this particular online class, so I think proper credit is due. I will put a link to her course below (not sponsored). There is so much more I could do to improve this website in terms of accessibility, design, and adding my own personal touch. I will keep an archive of every version and I’d like to share my trials and errors with you.
